Standing for Rights: MACC Granted Intervener Status in Bill 21 Case

The Muslim Advisory Council of Canada has been granted intervener status in the upcoming hearing before the Supreme Court of Canada on Quebec’s Bill 21.

Bill 21, which invoked the Notwithstanding Clause, restricts public sector workers and civil servants (including teachers) from wearing religious symbols such as the hijab, cross, or turban.

Research has shown that the negative effects of Bill 21 have disproportionately impacted Muslim women, leaving many feeling alienated, unsafe, and hopeless.
